What is Forex?

Trading Forex (foreign exchange) involves buying or selling one currency against another but without taking delivery of the underlying currency. A key advantage forex has over other financial instruments is that you can trade relatively small lot sizes. Forex traders employ lot sizes as small as 1000 units, also known as micro lots. Typically, forex involves leverage which can be as high as 1:500.

What moves Forex?

Forex can be moved by fundamental and technical analysis. For example, a change in interest rates or a change in government policy.

What is the Forex Spread?

Forex spread is the difference between the Buy and the Sell price.

What are Forex Swaps?

Forex swaps are charged if you decide to hold your position overnight. Foreign currency swaps involve the exchange of fixed-rate interest payments on currencies. You may be charged or credited – this will depend on what pair you are holding.

What are Equities?

Stocks, shares, and equities describe units of ownership in one or more companies. The owner – known as a shareholder – receives dividend payments, as well as voting rights, if the company grants them.

What moves Equities?

Stocks, shares, and equities work by giving you direct exposure to a company’s performance. Shares will rise in value when the company is doing well. They’ll also fall in value when a company is doing poorly.

How do you trade Equity CFDs?

Buy and sell shares in the world's most popular companies utilising a percentage of your margin and speculating on the rise and fall of share prices.
Equity CFDs Examples
A stock of 100 shares purchased at $25 a share has a cost of $2,500. A margin requirement of 20% means you will need $500 of available margin (which will be debited from your account). If the stock then rallies to $26, your realisable profit is $100. that profit will be credited to your account, along with the margin, less any commission due.

Equity Financing Examples

Example: Short Position

Daily financing charge or credit = size of position x applicable funding rate/365.

A Customer is short opened at 5pm ET Monday
Financing cost (Swap) = Apple @146.61 x 2 x 0.33% *1/365 = $2.70.

The charge or credit will always be in counter currency.
Example: Long Position

Daily financing charge or credit = size of position x applicable funding rate/365.

A Customer is long opened at 5pm ET Monday
Financing cost (Swap) = Apple @146.61 x 2 CFDs x 7.33% *1/365 = -$5.88.

The charge or credit will always be in counter currency.

What are Dividends?

Dividends are the cash distribution of any company profits, given to shareholders periodically depending on how many shares they currently own.

What is Financing?

Financing rates vary depending on the instrument and may change on a daily basis. These are quoted as an annual rate. Each product has two quoted rates: one for a long/buy position and the other for a short/sell position.
A negative funding rate will result in a charge being debited from your account balance, a positive funding rate will result in a credit to your account balance.

The daily financing charge or credit will be claimed/passed from/to your account balance each day you hold the position, and will be visible in your transaction history accessible via your portal.

Dividend Examples

Example: Short Position

Based on an example Apple Quarterly dividend amount = $0.23

A Customer is short two Apple shares

Dividends = Apple @146.61 x 2 CFDs = 2 x 0.23 = -$.46

The charge or credit will always be in counter currency
Example: Long Position

Based on an example Apple Quarterly dividend amount = $0.23

Customer is long two Apple shares

Dividends = Apple @146.61 x 2 CFDs = +$0.46

The charge or credit will always be in counter currency
What are Indices?
Indices measure the performance of a group of shares listed on a stock market. Because there are no underlying physical assets to exchange, indices are traded with financial derivatives like CFDs. Indices allow traders to take a broader view of a basket of stocks rather than a view of an individual stock.
Most countries have a stock exchange that list both international and local companies. An exchange facilitates trading processes, allowing the value of a company to be determined by its performance. The number of listed companies can range from a couple of hundred in less developed financial markets to several thousand in established markets and regions. The basket of the major companies' performance forms an Index that demonstrates the value of the market on the exchange.

What moves Indices?

The movement of individual stock prices happens within the basket of Indices. Stock prices are moved by the financial performance of a company. The change of any individual stock in an index is reflected in the overall value of that index.
EXAMPLE: SELL WS30

Open price - 33966
Close price - 33943
Difference - 23

Profit on trade - 23 points x 2 contracts ($2 per point) = USD $46.

For every point that the bid quote on the WS30 Index falls below 33966.00 you will make a profit of $2 USD, for every point the bid quote rises above 33943.00 you will lose $2 USD.

How do I trade Index CFDs?

There are two ways to get exposure to the index price when you trade CFDs: index futures or cash indices.

Traders with a long-term market outlook tend to prefer index futures, as the overnight funding charge is included in the wider spreads, unlike cash indices.

Index futures are traded at a price agreed by futures traders for delivery in the future (future price). Cash indices are generally preferred by traders who have a short-term outlook as they have tighter spreads than index futures.

Cash indices are traded at the current price of the underlying market (spot price).
